Professional Background

I have owned two companies of my own and have had partial ownership of two others, and have worked as a professional SEO and IT guy for other companies. I've been an SEO since 1997 which in itself is no small feat. On top of that I've been a server and network admin at a company where I managed 15 web and email servers. There were over 500 websites on those boxes and somewhere in the neighborhood of 2000 email addresses. If even a single server went down the phones started ringing off the hook!
I'm a full-time SEO now and also have a stake in a construction company. (Strange, I know. It's a family business) I'm the IT guy for the construction company and host the servers at my house. I'm in charge of making sure that all the computers work at all the different projects across the midwest. Deploying 30 new computers with Vista on them is prooving to be a real challenge that is making me think outside of the box to come up for solutions for things like the fact that Vista won't maintain a persistant connection to a WebDAV server. This feature was shipped broken in Vista and I had to write a batch file as a work-around.

I’ve led marketing campaigns for over 400 websites including the more notable ones listed below. I’ve sold everything from diamonds to dating services, nuts and bolts to refrigerators. You name it, I’ve probably marketed it.

I led marketing efforts for Thrifty.com for quite a while. The campaigns I conceived and implemented included a focus on location specific traffic ie. “Disney world car rental,” a focus on national search terms ie. “Car Rental,” an international campaign targeted at both native and non-native searchers for geo-specific car rental terms in both English and the local language. Targeted areas include US, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Latin America, Ireland, England, France, Germany and Italy. All sites needed to employ a set of SEO Best Practices.

Dollar Car Rental is Thrifty’s sister company and their efforts were very similar to Thrifty’s.

Farmland Foods was under financial stress when they became a client. They were counting on their website to help shore up their bottom line. I led efforts to move their site into the Online Recipe space as well as to help push online promotions of their products.

Wal-Mart’s project was a lot of fun. Instead of marketing endless products of theirs in countless different online niches, I was lucky to get to market a website aimed at dispelling myths and rumors. I got to optimize for terms like “Wal-Mart sucks”,”Wal-Mart ruined my town”, etc. It was a great challenge and I had a really good time developing content around the phrases they wanted targeted.

Jack Stack BBQ is a restaurant that I love! It was easy to get on board and help improve their online presence because I really believed in their product. I helped them become the #1 retailer online for BBQ foods. They will ship their products across the country!

I helped Bayer market several of their different lines of animal products. Most of the products I got positioned were related to pet food and my efforts helped them move into that space online.

Monster Commerce was one of the top five sellers of shopping cart software at the time. I helped them work out some issues with their site and identified areas they could improve for Search Engine Optimization purposes.

Hallmark contracted me to gain positioning for their business greetings brand. One of the major challenges I faced was dealing with an intemediary web design company, a thrid part programmer, and a team of five that managed the site at Hallmark. Coordinating efforts to make technical changes that not all parties understood was a major challenge. Though there was difficulty getting things done, the site was improved dramatically when I illuminated and recommended corrections for major problems with the site structure and backend platform. The site went from four pages indexed, to all pages indexed.

I helped Interest.com gain ground against their competitors online. I helped so much, in fact, that they were quickly bought by their biggest competitor.
